I've finished writing The Political Economy of Energy and Climate Change and have secured a great editor that's working through it. I'm planning to have it on the bookshelves by early next year.
The main argument of the book is that climate change is too complex to succinctly define and that the climate change debate is really a debate and struggle for control of the world’s political economy – it is about big money and power. These many facets of the debate may be conducted publically, but their true details are hidden from the public. In a clear and multi-disciplinary approach, I delve into the underlying economic, corporate, and political motivations that are really fueling the energy and climate change debate focusing on all the actors on the energy and climate change stage.
Overall, the book isn't pro climate change or pro energy corporations. It's intended for the average citizen....the kind that pays bills. The goal is to take a genuine look at the implications of what these very large agendas from some very large companies and governments could have on the average citizen. At the moment, the climate change group claims to be all about the people, but behind them are many large global corporations, governments, the UN, and others backing them. On the other hand, the energy companies are not going to let go of the world that has been built on fossil fuels. The people are caught in the middle.
